The Skateboarder's Companion - Locality

Mar 2021 by Route One
New quarterly publication The Skateboarder's Companion arrived with a bang last month, with skate shops and branches of WHSmiths the length and breadth of the country reporting clearing through stock at a staggering rate, and it's no surprise - the prestige of a glossy magazine from (some of) the brains behind much missed Sidewalk was always gonna be a top draw!
The accompanying website is steadily finding its feet and one of our favourite features so far is the excellent 'Locality' series, drawing on the territorial knowledge of various UK scene stalwarts, highlighting their favourite hometown spots. From Jak Pietryga and Walthamstow to Aaron Wilmot with Glasgow, Crawley by Lucy Adams and Brighton from Rianne Evans, we get an insight into the sights and scenes of provincial towns and city suburbs that only a bonafide local could facilitate.
The latest instalment showcases the history of W10, aka Ladbroke Grove, the hallowed streets in the shadow of the Westway that served as a playground (as well as veritable skate classroom) for the talents of Nike SB's Kyron Davies. Click the link below to read his thoughts on the spots, watch some classic footage from the infamous Playstation/Bay 66 skate park and peep a 2007 CJ pic of Kyron kickflipping when he was barely out of short trousers!
