Brighton is unique for its huge array of Independent shops that span throughout the North and South lanes as well it’s incredible music scene, being the hometown of iconic artists and venues such as Fat Boy Slim and the Concorde2. The Brighton store itself is unique with it being the only original Route One Shop that has been operating out of the same location since it originally opened in the late 90s/early 00’s, serving the local community and tourists from all over the world for over 20 years and keeping its independent feel from being such a iconic part of Brighton. Music has to be the main attraction in Brighton. If you like raving into the night you have The Volks, The Arch and Concorde2 for all your big name DnB and Bass DJ’s, and if you’re into the more Indy Punk and Hardcore scene you have The Prince Albert, The Hope & Ruin or The Green Door Store, where you can catch DIY shows every night of the week.

We believe our skate store is particularly impactful as we work closely with all areas of the community to try and get as many people from all different backgrounds involved in skating. Thanks to the help of Brighton & Hove Skate Association (BHSA) and Brighton Youth Centre (BYC) we are able to introduce skateboarding to a variety of people and use it as a positive force within the city.

It’s a real close-knit, accepting scene in Brighton, everyone appreciates that all we want to do is just skate, whether it’s at The Level, Hove Lagoon or BYC everyone’s just down to skate and have fun. With some of our store staff having worked within the scene for over 18 years now, we’ve seen a lot of the locals grow up and most likely sold them their first board when they were kids, which is pretty special.

Store team rider, Harry Bidwell: "In the summer, there’s no better place in the UK. Skate the level, hit up a few of the new and old spots and then chill on the beach until sunset. Brighton's full of interesting people, there's music for everyone and entertaining nutters everywhere. The scene has so much history. Brighton is home to some very talented skaters, from Liam T’s 50-50’in down the mad Churchill Square set, to Harrison W and the Orwellian landscape crew putting out creative and steezy parts on the regular. Some local killers, such as Route One’s Diggs putting out a part for flip, and Dougie and Dan Disher going on trips featuring for Chocolate, it's great to see. Overall it’s a tight scene where everyone seems to know each other and get along, you can already see the next big skaters emerging most evenings at the Level, those sessions are so fun and bring out the best of your skating!"

Meet the local skate team

Brighton's team stretches slightly further than the city and into some of the smaller towns surrounding the seaside spot. We have George Legg, who you can usually be found destroying his local indoor skatepark. Mason McNulty-Ringshaw who brings the laughter as well as the pop to the session. Harry Bidwell, the ATV with the just-as-powerful style to match. And Gideon, who may look small but goes bigger than most adults at the park.
