Giorgio Villone 'Devil's Pocket'

Jan 2023 by Ben Stubbs

Spend any time with skaters in their mid 30's and talk will eventually turn to Josh Stewart's seminal 2004 release 'Static II: The Invisibles.' From the people Josh worked with, through the music he chose, to the perfection of the filming and editing, few videos of the mid 00's are discussed in such revered tones and for very good reason.

You may be wondering why we're referencing a 19 year old skate video when the title above clearly states the clip below showcases Giorgio Villone, a lad who was barely outta primary school when Static II was making waves.  Well, it's because this video matches the composition and mood so utterly perfectly, we were immediately transported into the heads of our much younger selves and that was a feeling we very much enjoyed!

The camera work is perfect, the east coast spots sublime - there's no reliance on Tompkins trash cans and Blubba, this is deep into the projects of Philly level spot hunting - and, most importantly, Giorgio brings the same kind of beautiful, nonchalant style that Josh Stewart so often chose to work with; something that made us fans of the 2004 classic very, very happy!
