For Cop's Sake raises £22,000 to help fight the climate crisis

Nov 2021 by Route One

For Cop’s Sake! Skate Art Show finished with a bang on Friday, as the auction hammer fell marking the culmination of an amazing two week event and fantastic result.

A collaborative effort by Route One, re:ply skateboards, Forum Auctions and of course the global skate community, the event raised a massive £22,000 for the Environmental Justice Foundation, to support their work shining a light on the human costs of the climate crisis!

Over 60 skate and street artists from around the world contributed including legends such as Jimbo Phillips, Don Pendleton, Andy Jenkins, Matt Hensley, and Shephard Fairey! We were blown away by the diversity and creativity of the artwork they produced on recycled skateboards supplied by re:ply.

That so many artists responded to the challenge and so many others offered their support for free, speaks to the scale of the problem and is a source of hope for the future.

Steve Trent, founder and CEO of the Environmental Justice Foundation, said:

"To the For COP’s Sake artists, I’m writing to send my heartfelt thanks, along with those of the entire team at EJF, for the wonderful works of art you created to be auctioned to support our work to combat global heating. Thank you all so much.

The brilliant, eclectic mix of styles and visions seemed to me to encompass the diversity of the climate movement itself, reflecting how we can all play a role in preventing climate breakdown – you certainly have made a wonderful contribution.

The funds you helped Route One raise will enable us to keep the momentum going after COP26, helping to produce high-impact films, reports, and stories from the frontlines of the climate crisis, so that we do not let our leaders forget about the actions they promised, the actions they must still take and the obligations they have, to both people and our fragile, threatened natural world.
We will continue to do all we can to roll-back runaway global heating. Here is a link to our manifesto to combat global heating - I hope it will help you too.
With my thanks again, we are truly grateful for your wonderful art and ideas."

As COP26 closed with half a compromise, rather than the clear plan of action needed, António Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations said “It's time to go into emergency mode. The climate battle is the fight of our lives, and that fight must be won.” He’s right.

Thanks to everyone doing their bit to fight for climate action.

Never give up the fight!
