SMiLe Interviews: Fred Gall
Skateboarding, for all the fun it brings, has a serious side. The tragic death of Ben Raemers in May 2019 led to the establishment of the Ben Raemers Foundation which has, in no small part, helped tear down the stigma of discussing the mental health issues that plague so many of our number.
Fred Gall had it all but "all" included access to partying that few people have the tools to handle. In this SMiLe interview for the foundation, he opens up about his struggles with addiction and the tragic consequences drugs have played in his life.
Make no mistake, this is a harrowing watch but it's also essential viewing. Fred has come through the other side and his tales of vicissitude serve as a stark warning to anybody close to walking down the same road. It also shows bad times can be overcome when people are able to open up and talk about their problems, the very reason Ben's foundation was set up in the first place.
