"$$$three" by Naquan Rollings

Jun 2023 by Louis Parsons

Although only a total of 8 tricks go down in this video (less if you only count tricks done down the nine-stair), Naquan Rollings$$$three brims with a nostalgic magic and the tantalising bubbling of frantic anticipation.

Thanks to the tireless commitment of bastion for the Brooklyn Banksundisputable mayor of New York skateboarding and 5BORO co-founder Steve Rodriguez, the Banks, that slumbering skateboard leviathan that languishes below the belly of the Manhattan side of the Brooklyn Bridge, is slowly, incrementally repealing its skater-shunning walls and fences and opening to the public once more.

The refurbishment of the Banks has been split into a three stage process, beginning with the small space incorporating the eminent nine-stair handrail and its flanking mini banks. Although the booster-bump that played stage to Josh Kalis' crane-like kickflip to close out Zoo York's Peep This (1999) has sadly been upheaved, the rest of the area remains relatively intact, ready for another generation to glide across the hallowed brickwork. An unveiling of the iconic small banks will soon follow suit, followed by the big banks to complete the process in the near future.

Naquan Rollings is amongst the first to the table to sample the born-again Banks and its bountiful spread, offering in return this bite-sized clip with bit parts from Zach Allen, Thomas Dritsas, Tallys Jr., Brandon James, a smooth display from Carlisle Aikens, some Tanner Burzinski slap-happy tech, and even a quick cameo from modelling megastar Evan Mock. The section smacks of a classic 411vm segment: fleeting, but showcasing some pristine skateboarding and the Banks' plentiful opportunity when paired with a little ingenuity.
