Adidas are currently working on three core areas to improve their impact: changing materials, wearing products longer, and reducing carbon footprint. They are currently producing alternative fabrics that can be used in their products such as their Stan Smith made with ‘Mylo’ which is a leather alternative made from mushrooms. This sits alongside their Primegreen and Primeblue fabrics which are made from a variety of recycled materials. As well as this, 96% of all the polyester that they use in products is now recycled. Within Germany, Adidas sources most of its electricity from renewable sources and in 2022 they worked with Parley to clean up 250,000kg of plastic waste from our beaches, islands, and coastal communities. And in 2023 Adidas have launched a range of products called Know The Carbon Footprint to be able to be more transparent with their customers. They have also worked to reduce their carbon footprint by on average 15% per product compared to the emission baseline of 2017. They also have more ambitious goals. For example, they plan to be climate neutral by 2050.
