The wait is over. Two years on from its Nike SB debut and after months of anticipation, the Air Jordan IV is back. Pine Green makes way for Navy, an evolution of a shoe with a legacy nearly as storied as Michael Jordan himself.
A Hall of Famer, six-time NBA Championship winner, five-time MVP, and one-time Space Jam star, a shoe was needed to match the man. The Jordan 4 stands tall as one of, if not the, most iconic silhouette the franchise has ever released.
Designed by Tinker Hatfield in 1989 and coveted for its revolutionary aesthetics and supreme functionality, it wasn’t long until skaters took notice. Drawn to its unparalleled ankle support, lasting durability, and impact dampening properties, it was quickly repurposed from court to board, with the shoe able to keep up with the demands of skateboarding.
Like Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen, Nike SB and the Jordan franchise are proving to be quite the dream team. From “The Shot” to the streets, SB have remained as close to the original, timeless Air Jordan 4 design as possible, whilst reflecting differences in culture and practice with skate-ready tweaks.
A reworked sole construction improves board feel and grip, whilst the ’89-inspired toe box gives enhanced fit and impeccable flick. A Poron forefoot sockliner joins the team for a perfect blend of impact cushioning and out-the box board feel and flexibility, and a leather and suede upper with regal Navy accents bring together heritage aesthetics and durability. A bold red Jumpman logo pays a fitting tribute to the OG design and the influence of the greatest to ever do it.
