A skateboarding superstar before even leaving school, Sky Brown has a lifetime’s worth of career achievements at only fifteen years old. Another feather in her cap, an extra notch on her belt, and now new kicks on her feet, Nike SB reward their youngest ever sponsored athlete and Team GBs youngest ever medallist with her own pro model colourway of the Zoom Pogo Plus.
First released in December 2022, the Zoom Pogo Plus is a relative newcomer to the Nike SB line but has quickly established itself as a solid skateboarding go-to. Initially conceptualised as the shoe to bridge the gapbetween traditionally gendered footwear constructions, the Pogo has proven a hit across the board thanks to its board feel, aesthetic, and affordability. Already offered in a huge range of growing colourways, Sky’s retouching of her favourite footwear model finds a unique blend of stylish and sentimental.
Born and raised in Miyazaki, Japan to British-Japanese parents, Sky’s new shoe pays homage to her eclectic heritage with intricate design details and a colourway blending hues synonymous with both islands. Made up in a blend of traditionally skate-ready materials, the shoe’s upper sports a primarily cool complexion, with soft, off-white suede cladding icy, tumbledleather panelling.
Above debossed Japanese symbols spelling Sky’s name, the heel panel is emblazoned in a deep rouge, contrasted with stark blue “NIKE” embroidery; these colours inverse with custom graphics at the tongue tag, creating a balance throughout the upper. Further custom artwork is splashed across cushioning Zoom Air Insoles in the footbed.Defining the design in its entirety is a unique take on the Nike Swoosh across the lateral and medial faces of the shoe, which bursts its deep, black borders with imagery of blossoming flowers, lightly and complexly engraved a hundred times over, and adding aesthetic depth to a vulcanised model that’s structurally simplistic.
