Jim Greco IS skateboarding. There, we said it. As much as Olympic gold medals, multi million dollar shoe deals and Instagram followings the size of small countries may be the peak of skateboarding achievement in 2022, every single one of us can remember going out by ourselves after tea and playing on our skateboard, seeing what we could do.
Jim Greco's latest onanistic self-promotion may well be free of even the tiniest hint of irony in its production but, in some weird way, that's exactly what makes is so wonderfully brilliant. Here's a man, well into middle age and perhaps 20 years on from his Piss Drunx "Hammers" peak, skating possibly harder than he ever did (even more so than his near perfect Baker 3 part in 2005 - if you haven't seen it, search out 'Jim Greco Baker 3 re-edit' on YouTube now), just to see what he can do.
Cruising around the dystopian downtown LA, Greco commits some truly inspiring skateboarding to tape, including a mesmerising back three, for no other reason than he can. That's why he IS skateboarding and we can't see how anybody could argue with that!
