Tyler Surrey's 'Indy Part'

Oct 2024 by Route One

Tyler Surrey occupies a rather weird place in skateboarding. Unnaturally talented, he's a veritable wizard on the board, and his years in the company of Sour's Gustav Tonneson have only served to improve his skateboarding output. But said time with the Sour boys, living pretty much permanently in Barcelona, means he's never really ascended to the heights he might have done had he maintained his career in his home town of San Diego. Not that we imagine Tyler is complaining, life in the Catalan sun is surely pretty sweet!

That's not to suggest that he's stuck in Spain all the time, as his new part for Indy Trucks proves. Accompanied by Tomas Scicchitano to the Americas, Tyler creates a two song opus highlighting the insane board control we've come to love and expect from him (we weren't expecting the second song though, that choice is straight outta left field!)

But maybe that's why a rather weird place in skateboarding is perfect for somebody like Tyler Surrey and why we, the viewing public, love him just the way he is. He has the freedom to curate his own image far from the centre of the industry and if that means flip-in-flip-out manny combos set to instrumental piano pieces then we are defo here for it.
